Review of Death Penalty USA: 2005 - 2006 (Hardcover)

about capital punishment in which the two authors have done an outstanding job of recreating the capital crimes and the legal proceedings that ultimately resulted in the execution of 59 men and one woman in 2005 and 53 men in 2006 by the most advanced country on the planet. The writing is appropriately dry and the facts are kept at unemotional level which help to make the book appeal to people like myself who want to evaluate the totality of each murder on a case by case basis without having to get caught up in a debate about capital punishment. While at times the amount of information is simply overwhelming I must say that I am pretty impressed with this book which I think provides an interesting social commentary of America that makes you wonder just how advanced we really are.

Product Description
This is a book about the taking of lives, grim events that no pleas or acts of mercy can undo. Herein, each and every crime for which a person was executed in the United States between January 2005 and December 2006 is described. This book is not easy reading. In some cases the crimes are exacted with uncontrolled rage focused on one specific victim and in others with a total indifference as to the life taken. What is common to all these murders is that each and every one resulted in at least one other death - a judicially ordered execution. The Eighth Amendment of the United States Constitution dictates that punishment must fit the crime forbidding cruel and unusual punishment. Only by studying each and every one of these horrific and shocking crimes can it be determined if the ultimate sentence of death was imposed with all deference to the laws of a civilized society. Death Penalty USA 2005-2006 is Delfino and Day's third scholarly book and the first in a series of books intended to document all 21st century capital punishment cases in the United States.

About the Author
Michelangelo Delfino and Mary E. Day are well-respected research scientists who have been awarded dozens of U.S., European, and Canadian patents and who have published more than 100 scientific peer-reviewed papers. Praised by the press for acting together as the 'Internet Gadflys' Dr. Delfino and Ms. Day published writings that exposed a major Silicon Valley scandal; led to the arrest and prosecution by the U.S. government of a terrorist harbored by Agilent Technologies, Inc.; and alerted the public to the lawlessness of seven Santa Clara County California Court Judges including the infamous Jack Komar - actions that resulted in landmark California Supreme Court and Appellate Court rulings. Living near the sea, the couple travel extensively researching material for future books.

Review of Straight Shooting: Firearms, Economics and Public Policy (Hardcover)

John R. Lott brings real facts, logic and common sense to the gun control issue, as distinct from the misrepresentations and hysterical rantings of the left-wingers. All those who believe the founding fathers really did know what they were doing when they authored the Bill of Rights and in particular the Second Amendment therein will find plenty of support in Prof. Lott's books.

As the previous reviewer has noted, the first reviewer obviously meant to give this book 5 stars and not 1.

Product Description
In his newest book, John Lott gives you the information you need to win the arguments with those who want to ban guns and destroy your individual freedom and liberty to pursue the American dream.

Straight Shooting contains Professor Lott's best columns from Publications like National Review, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Investor's Business Daily, Kansas City Star, New York Post, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, USA Today and scores of others.

Review of The Negotiator's Fieldbook: The Desk Reference for the Experienced Negotiator (Paperback)

When the Negotiator's Fieldbook arrived its sheer throw weight told me I was getting the desk reference anticipated. My first pass through the table of contents reassured me that the comprehensive scope of the material is as advertised. And the annotated table of contents is a useful feature in view of the way I think I'll be using this source.
Several articles surprised me and grabbed my curiousity; so those I'll be reading soon for pleasure. The rest will wait a year or so for me to check the volume for something relevant to a problem that has me stumped or perplexed.
I know of nothing comparable in the field at this time.
--Bill Biglow, mediator

Product Description
Edited by Andrea Kupfer Schneider and Christopher Honeyman and featuring 80 contributors, The Negotiator's Fieldbook is the most comprehensive book on negotiation available. And the concept that everybody negotiates is increasingly accepted as wisdom. A world in which small manufacturers find their customers and their suppliers on the far side of the globe, in which lifetime stability of employment has been replaced by successive negotiation for new jobs, and in which prenuptial agreements and mediated divorces flank a noticeable percentages of marriages, makes the fact of continuous negotiation more and more obvious. This book pulls together the relevant ideas on negotiation from law, psychology, business, economics, cultural studies and a dozen other fields to provide a context for successful negotiation.

Review of The Glannon Guide to Criminal Law: Learning Criminal Law Through Multiple-Choice Questions and Analysis (Paperback)

I have found the series of "The Glannon Guide To ... " to be the best supplement. I read the case book, as well as this book, and used info from both to create my outline.

I did read and look at other books, including Glannon E&E, but liked this one. I will say that if you read every page of the E&E, you will probably find at least one similar problem on your final, but it is harder to read, more time consuming, and more expensive. I used the same series for Civ Pro (avoiding E&E) and was happy with my grade.

I pulled a C+ on the midterm without reading this book yet, and after reading this and the casebook, and outlining, I ended up with a B in crim law....and thats good enough for me!
