Review of The God Machine (Hellboy) (Mass Market Paperback)

If you like the Hellboy stuff, you'd probably enjoy this book.Follows the Hellboy series nicely and is a pretty good read on it's own.

Product Description
Hellboy, a bloodred, cloven-hoofed demon raised by the United States government, is a top field agent for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. He questions the unknown -- then beats it into submission.

Religious artifacts from every faith are disappearing without a trace. The identity of the perpetrator is a complete mystery until Hellboy and Liz Sherman -- acting on an unlikely tip from a ghost -- foil a museum heist attempted by crude, robotic constructs inhabited by human spirits.

One of these freed human spirits offers to help Hellboy track down those who imprisoned him: a fanatical order of psychics obsessed with creating a new messiah, one that will bring about a new stage of evolution for mankind -- whether mankind is willing or not. Now only Hellboy and his colleagues stand between a vulnerable humanity and an evil, vengeful god....

Review of Underworld: Book 1 (Underworld (Pocket Star Books)) (Bk. 1) (Mass Market Paperback)

I love the film "Underworld" and bought this book hoping to get more background information on the characters. The film warrants a sequel (and filming on "Underworld 2" starts Fall 2004) and even after several viewings of the dvd I always found new facts and tidbits that I hadn't caught before.

This is where the book comes in handy. Greg Cox does a fantastic job not only of bringing the film to life with his vivid descriptions, but he also does a great job of telling you what the characters are thinking and feeling. There is also more background info on the characters and the vampire and lycan culture that is not obvious or even mentioned in the film. For instance, I didn't realize that the vampire culture has a certain hierarchy and that the character Erika is considered a mere servant. Kraven and Lucian's plans are also explained here while only alluded to in the film. Many of my questions were answered in this book and this is why I find this an indispensable companion to the movie/dvd.

If you are an "Underworld" fan, then this book is a must have. It is a quick and enjoyable read that will give you new insight on the characters and cultures of the movie.

Review of CSI: Nevada Rose (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) (Mass Market Paperback)

Max Allan Collins is the best writer for the CSI novels so far, but Jerome Priesler did a great job.I did find it weird that the cast was split into the swing shift and graveyard shift again.I enjoyed this more than the previous book, In Extremis, by another author.

Product Description
"Nevada Rose" Demille was one of the most beautiful and desired sports groupies in Las Vegas, a fixture at the trendiest casinos and clubs on the Strip. But the endless party came to a tragic end the morning her nude body was found bound and gagged in her home. As crime scene investigators Catherine Willows and Warrick Brown dig deeper, all roads (and a growing media circus) lead to Mark Baker -- a.k.a. "The Fireball" -- a hard-throwing, Cooperstown-bound major-league pitcher and fancier of gorgeous women who recently conducted a very public affair with one "Nevada Rose" Demille....

Meanwhile, miles away on the grounds of a world-class championship golf course, Gil Grissom is probing the macabre discovery of a John Doe -- an intense investigation that will unearth a bitter sibling rivalry twisted by jealousy and distrust over a "Nevada Rose" of a very different nature....

About the Author
Jerome Preisler is the author of more than twenty books, including the bestselling Tom Clancy's Power Plays series. He is also a baseball commentator whose work appears on the New York Yankees' YES Network Online.
