Review of Remind Me Again Why I Need A Man (Hardcover)

I just finished this book two days ago, and, though I was a bit irritated with the ending, it was worth the ride. It took reading the first two pages for me to be very intrigued and buy it.

Amelia is like many women - smart, forward-motion hard-working and after the big bucks, until 37 hits and she is sick of being alone. Her circle of friends is a major reason for the aloneness - it's eluded to several times, but she never really grasps that - some sweaters can be knitted so tight that water (men) can't be poured through - that's Amelia & her friends.

Anyway, she takes a Harvard marketing-based course to get married in a year, keeps doodling herself in a Vera Wang with a faceless groom, and the ride through her past loves is really fantastic - it seems you really couldn't make this stuff up, yet each character is developed and 'real' to the reader, you can't wait to see what went wrong in each of the past relationships.

I loved the format and would recommend it as great summer reading or to lighten-up a winter's eve.

Review of Remind Me Again Why I Need a Man: A Novel (Paperback)

A friend of mine recommended I read this book as she had just started it. Being frustrated with the dating scene I figured why not. I had a few days off between semesters, so I bought the book. It's hilarious. You want to know what is going to happen next and it's interesting. The biggest draw back is that the book could've used a different editor. There are a few typos in it, but not enough that it makes you want to stop reading. So if you're interested in a book to pass the time that will make you laugh, I would suggest giving it a read.

Review of The Olive Sisters (Paperback)

This is a marvelous read that is genuinely romantic, funny and touching. It's the story of a hyper-successful marketing executive who forced to start her life over when her business unexpectedly crashes and burns. Fleeing Sydney to take refuge on her one remaining 'asset' - a run-down olive farm in she inherited from her estranged father - the never-married mother of one discovers that everything she thought she knew about her history and heritage was a lie. With great characters and a slowly unfolding mystery - as well as two parallel sagas set fifty years apart - it'll keep you briskly turning the pages. Can't wait for the inevitable movie!
