Review of Journey to the Darkside: Supermom Goes Home (Paperback)

my baby is almost 11 months and i'm looking at going back to work in a month. naturally i've flirted at the idea of quitting my bank job and staying at home. this book gives a preview of what awaits! it's another jungle out there, and it only seems great and promising when one is still deciding to crossover. to other moms, read this and be forewarned. anyway i really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others looking for some insight and comic relief!

Product Description
In her latest book, popular humorist and parenting writer Kathy Buckworth takes a good, hard look at what happens when high-powered corporate moms decide to hang up their briefcases and venture into the uncharted waters of the stay-at-home world.

Journey to the Darkside: SuperMom Goes Home explores the culture shock that results when a woman goes from being a corporate go-getter to being an unpaid chauffeur, chef, and maid. Think you're a pro at dealing with office politics? Wait until you attend your first PTA meeting. Confident in your ability to make sound wardrobe choices? Don't listen too closely to what the other stay-at-home moms are saying at the park. Expect your husband to help out when you're feeling under the weather? Hah!

Part guidebook, part warning, Journey to the Darkside is insightful, hilarious, and brutally honest. It will have moms (stay-at-home or otherwise) laughing out loud-which is a good thing, because otherwise, they might have to cry.

Review of The Bogeyman: Stalking and Its Aftermath (Paperback)

This book is divided into two parts, chapter by chapter. The first section that of the author's narrative on her own personal stalking experience, and then well researched information on how to recognize and deal with stalkers. The second part contains important information purveyed in a semi-academic fashion. The author's personal narrative, however horrifying - is written in a 'cutesy' tone, with explanation points throughout and comments to herself such as 'I'll get you my pretty and your little dog too'. In addition throughout the narrative, the author finds it necessary to put in brackets what SONG the reader should be humming to any particular part of her tale i.e. ('hum along with Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole's 'When I Fall in Love''). The writing is in effect terrible and cliche ridden with bad attempts at humour. A clever writer might have been able to pull off some dark humour in even so grim a tale, but Dr. Meinberg is not that writer. This is not a good book.

Product Description
The Bogeyman represents the author's personal history as it pertains to stalking experiences and related information. This encapsulated version condenses forty years of stalking experiences into a mere ten chapters. Dr. Sherry L. Meinberg honed her survival skills long before any research, facts, and figures were considered, and before the word stalking was coined. She learned everything the hard way--without books, advice, or professionals, to guide her--through firsthand experience alone. Alongside her personal saga, the book presents added material, listing expert opinions, information, and resources, serving as supportive and reinforcing background for her experiences. Research now tells us that one in twelve women in the USA, and a growing number of men, will be stalked at sometime in their lives. Over one and a half million adults are stalked annually, with the vast majority of victims being the average, normal, everyday citizen. Could one of your family members or friends become a victim? Could you? Find out what to expect, and how to protect yourself and loved ones. Take action!

About the Author
Considered to be the longest stalked person in the nation, Dr. Sherry L. Meinberg doesn't let such negative experiences stand in her way or slow her down. As an educator, author, and speaker, she has been the subject of numerous articles, and interviewed on cable, national and international television shows, along with hundreds of radio programs.

Review of Don't Just Sit There: A True Account of a Frightening Experience and a Self-Help Book for Women (Paperback)

LA Wilson does a great job of telling a true and horrifying story of being raped. This woman had the sense to grab up
evidence such as nylon hose, shell casings, and items found in the car during her terrifying experience. Her intelligence by doing this helped to find the rapist. This book needs to be read by all women to understand that any guy hanging around, seen or unseen is a threat to her safety. What is even more astonishing is that after this guy violates her, he has the audacity to keep trying to make conatct with her.I am amazed at Wilson's strength and fortitude. I look forward to reading more of her writing. The story also shows how teamwork pays off, when people (not just women) look out for each other, especially when suspects are released from jail or prison.
Good job, Lisa!Go get 'em!

Product Description
A true story about how one woman made sure that justice was served to the man that assaulted her.

About the Author

She is still actively involved with the Citizen's Police Academy Alumni, working closely with the Police Departments in the surrounding area, and works with victims of crime, primarily drawing Forensic Sketches of the criminals. The man who abducted her was given a Mandatory Release from prison in January of 2008, but before that release, Lisa had sent out thousands of e-mail Alerts containing his information and picture, wanting women to know exactly what he looked like. This Alert was circulated throughout Texas and the United States in the event he tried to escape. He is under Super Intensive Supervision until 2035 for his crime. He is also a suspect in approximately 30 other unsolved rapes that occurred in the 1980's. In July, her abductor had a warrant out for his arrest because of an apparent parole violation, but has since been re-arrested. He is awaiting a hearing before the Parole Board to decide his fate...whether he returns to the Halfway House near Beaumont, Texas, or he is sent back to prison.Even over 23 years after being stalked by a stranger, abducted at knifepoint, and sexually assaulted, she is having to deal with trying to not only keep track of the offender, but keep others informed of his whereabouts. Lisa does not want him to have the opporturnity to reoffend...having another innocent victim added to his list.

Review of Singular Existence (Paperback)

This book is so GREAT!!!!
Whether you are single, dating someone, or married, you will find it impossible to NOT relate to this book.

I have had my own share of dating adventures, but even more so have seen friends go through their own rough times...totally feeling the pressure to marry and settle down. This leads to endless conversations about what is wrong with them, why didn't he call, etc. I even went out and bought that book "He's Just Not that Into You", to read for myself and thinking this would surely give me the wisdom and right thing to say the next time a friend called upset that some guy wasn't treating her right....and somehow this was her fault. But no.....no such luck, no real understanding of how unfair the pressures women feel to make it work at any cost with any guy (at least not in that book, or books like it) until THIS ONE . . .

If you've ever read (or lent someone) books like "He's Just not that Into you" or read all the chick lit books that spend the whole time selling you on how it's okay to be single but then always end up with the perfect guy in the end (which admittedly I have read and enjoy for entertainment value...but honestly enough is enough) .... YOU HAVE TO READ THIS.

It's as smart and funny as Sex and the City with depth and insight of authors like John Gray (Men are From Mars Women are From Venus) and ....hmmmm....actually I can't think of anyone else, because Leslie Talbot is the most insightful person I've read on this topic.

More than that It's FUNNY....really really funny!

Anyway.....if I haven't said enough for you to buy this book IMMEDIATELY..she's also a fellow Bostonian and a very nice person who e-mailedme back personally after writing a comment about her book on her equally FABULOUS website www.singularexistence.com (which is also SOOOOO funny!).

Product Description
A fierce, funny read that redraws the fine line between alone and lonely.

One part memoir, one part self-help, with a dash of shrewd social commentary and a liberal dose of snark, Singular Existence is the surefire cure all for your single girl blues.

Creator of the popular website, Singularexistence.com,author LeslieTalbot deftly--and hilariously--eviscerates the media fads, self-help quackery, chick lit formula, and bogus social science that plague the unmarried, offering you a refreshingly optimistic perspective on the state of singledom.Essays include:

  • Shallow, Self-Centered, and Opinionated Seeks Opposite (an undercover investigation into the tangled web of online dating)
  • The Rules of Disengagement (a coward's guide to breakup etiquette)

  • Warning--Contents May Settle (the dire consequences of marital desperation--one woman's cautionary tale)

  • Deconstructing The Married Guy (a four-point primer on the psyche of the male adulterer)

  • He's Just a Big Fat A**hole (the real reason he's "just not that into" you)

  • Manifesto Destiny (a Declaration of Independence for the proudly unmarried)

Smart, scathing, and singularly entertaining, Singular Existence proves once and for all that relationships are not the only path to happiness.

Leslie Talbot is the founder of Singularexistence.com,a website that has gained a passionate following among snarky singles everywhere and was the proud inspiration for at least one broken engagement. In real life, Leslie is a business writing consultant to Fortune 500 companies. She lives in her own apartment in Boston, MA and has no intention of getting a roommate.
