Review of My Mother My Friend Forever (Paperback)

Betty Gonzales' book starts out with a total misrepresentation of the facts. Here is what she says happened "I received a call from my mother who lived out of state, to "come and get me now".Hearing the urgency in her voice I drove to California the very next day.She was waiting on the porch, wearing a flowered duster, looking a little disheveled holding her purse in one hand and a plastic bag of `clothes'with the other."

If Betty is willing to lie about this situation, how many more recounts of what happened could be fictitious?I am not sure. But as someone who actually knows the facts, my grandma was well cared for and loved by many in California, and to suggest otherwise is a complete falsehood. The situation Betty recounts is not at all how it happened. In fact, anyone who knows what happened would be appalled at this mischaracterization.I have no desire to recount the true story, it's too long and complicated, but suffice to say, I feel so strongly about this, I am not worried about liable, because what I am saying is the actual truth. My grandma was well cared for in countless ways.I hope Betty Gonzales, puts out a new edition of this book, which would possibly include what really happened, and how she really treated so many of grandma's loved ones.

Product Description
In the Year 1918 the average price of a home was under five thousand dollars.A new car could be purchased for less then four hundred dollars; a loaf of bread for ten cents and a postage stamp for three cents.World War I was coming to an end and the first woman of a major party ran (unsuccessfully) for a Senate seat but most importantly this was the year my mother was born! Her journey extended for almost eight-eight years. Her last six years became the most profound, soul-searching and inspiring years of my life. Her courage, faith and sense of humor brought us, mother and daughter, full circle. Her disease could not conceal her undying faith and strengthened mine beyond my expectations. This disease that I thought would swallow me up, with its many mysterious twists and turns surprisingly did not.It renewed my spirit. It enabled me to value life; each breath to its fullest extent.Astonishingly, it also brought many years of laughter and joy.As her caregiver I was to embark on my own journey; of the most unimaginable lessons I had yet to learn and we became soul-mates.

Review of Singular Existence (Paperback)

This book is so GREAT!!!!
Whether you are single, dating someone, or married, you will find it impossible to NOT relate to this book.

I have had my own share of dating adventures, but even more so have seen friends go through their own rough times...totally feeling the pressure to marry and settle down. This leads to endless conversations about what is wrong with them, why didn't he call, etc. I even went out and bought that book "He's Just Not that Into You", to read for myself and thinking this would surely give me the wisdom and right thing to say the next time a friend called upset that some guy wasn't treating her right....and somehow this was her fault. But no.....no such luck, no real understanding of how unfair the pressures women feel to make it work at any cost with any guy (at least not in that book, or books like it) until THIS ONE . . .

If you've ever read (or lent someone) books like "He's Just not that Into you" or read all the chick lit books that spend the whole time selling you on how it's okay to be single but then always end up with the perfect guy in the end (which admittedly I have read and enjoy for entertainment value...but honestly enough is enough) .... YOU HAVE TO READ THIS.

It's as smart and funny as Sex and the City with depth and insight of authors like John Gray (Men are From Mars Women are From Venus) and ....hmmmm....actually I can't think of anyone else, because Leslie Talbot is the most insightful person I've read on this topic.

More than that It's FUNNY....really really funny!

Anyway.....if I haven't said enough for you to buy this book IMMEDIATELY..she's also a fellow Bostonian and a very nice person who e-mailedme back personally after writing a comment about her book on her equally FABULOUS website www.singularexistence.com (which is also SOOOOO funny!).

Product Description
A fierce, funny read that redraws the fine line between alone and lonely.

One part memoir, one part self-help, with a dash of shrewd social commentary and a liberal dose of snark, Singular Existence is the surefire cure all for your single girl blues.

Creator of the popular website, Singularexistence.com,author LeslieTalbot deftly--and hilariously--eviscerates the media fads, self-help quackery, chick lit formula, and bogus social science that plague the unmarried, offering you a refreshingly optimistic perspective on the state of singledom.Essays include:

  • Shallow, Self-Centered, and Opinionated Seeks Opposite (an undercover investigation into the tangled web of online dating)
  • The Rules of Disengagement (a coward's guide to breakup etiquette)

  • Warning--Contents May Settle (the dire consequences of marital desperation--one woman's cautionary tale)

  • Deconstructing The Married Guy (a four-point primer on the psyche of the male adulterer)

  • He's Just a Big Fat A**hole (the real reason he's "just not that into" you)

  • Manifesto Destiny (a Declaration of Independence for the proudly unmarried)

Smart, scathing, and singularly entertaining, Singular Existence proves once and for all that relationships are not the only path to happiness.

Leslie Talbot is the founder of Singularexistence.com,a website that has gained a passionate following among snarky singles everywhere and was the proud inspiration for at least one broken engagement. In real life, Leslie is a business writing consultant to Fortune 500 companies. She lives in her own apartment in Boston, MA and has no intention of getting a roommate.
