Out of all the calder series, I love this one the best.Jessy is the woman all of us would love to be....feminine, tough, ladylike, loyal, beautiful in the way the land needed, not just "prissy". Ty needs someone to stand with him, not to be a "trophy". The loss of Maggie is so difficult; Chase just isn't the same without her; I love seeing Cat grow up and the changes in all the characters.I have even learned to like Culley. The love he has for Maggie and Cat is wonderful and touching.I have been through 2 copies already and will choose this one when i want a real look at the calder's.What a wonderful way to escape.....

Review of Cookin' for Love: A Novel with Recipes (Paperback)

Miriam Levy is of a certain age and admits it. She also contributes to her family, which is living lower than we all would expect in Beverly Hills, by authoring celebrities' cookbooks. Miriam is currently collaborating with Kimberly on A Starlet's Secrets of Sexy Cooking and is longing to pen her own cookbook.

Miriam is mom to college-bound twins Jake and Emma and to Lisa, a news reporter who is pregnant, unmarried, and wants her mother to be the full-time babysitter so she can concentrate on her career; wife to Alan, a former struggling screenwriter; and daughter to the mother who might be moving in with her.

Miriam's best friend Kate is a wealthy florist who continues, after many years, to lust after the only man she believes she ever loved. After checking out Erik on the Internet and contacting him, Kate learns Erik is the ambassador to Malaysia, married, and still lusts after her. I chuckled throughout the book and will read another of Boorstin's novels. My only criticism is that so many books these days treat "cheating on a mate" and bed hopping as normal and acceptable. But that is just a personal observation.

Cookin' for Love's author, Sharon Boorstin, writes a sassy and fun novel with many interesting twists and turns that can be enjoyed by all.

Review of Raw Power: A Novel With the Heart of a Drive-in Movie (Paperback)

Fans of Perri Pagonis's first book, Blood and Popcorn will be delighted to see that his writing is just as funny as ever. They may be surprised however, because Blood and Popcorn was a gentle, even loving, look at mall rats of the Northern Virginia suburbs. This new book, however, is sited somewhat west of DC in the unreconstructed South of Nascar loving, pitdog fighting, moonshine swilling, dirty fighting, money-making, Yahoo culture of the rural fringe of his previous world. Violent, angry, sexy, and funny all at the same time, the book features Stephen King touches like slaughtered pitbulls miraculously brought back to zombiedom life to help redneck culture cliche Boo Smalls (who despite everything you gotta love) gethis revenge against the bar-keeping bitch and her two lovers, one male and one female, who killed his dogs in the first place. That is if the aging Mafia hitman from New Jersey, hired by the guy who lost his hand in the process of trying to kill the dogs in the first place, doesnt get to them first.
You get the idea. This has all the makings of next years hot grade B movie. Get it and read it before Hollywood does and the price goes up. This is a hoot and a half.

Review of Dying for Revenge (Gideon Trilogy, Book 3) (Hardcover)

Gideon is back!That simple sentence has enough power in it for fans to salivate in this, the last book in a phenomenal series.I will be honest and say that this book didn't start off with the liquid fast pace that his others one have.It actually caught me off guard because I was like "what in the world"?It was that noticeable and very unusual for EJD.That being said, I still hung with it because this man is pure talent and I knew he wouldn't let the story down.AND HE DIDN'T!I was pulling for Gideon (of course) but through the course of the story I also felt myself pulling for Matthew and the red-hair lady who loved shoes.I take that back, this crazy woman had an obsession for shoes!!

It was almost comical in how Eric described her and her obsessive infatuation.This woman could be in a gun fight for her life and she could tell you not only where her would be assassins bought their shoes, but what size they were, how much they paid, and what store on the exact street they bought them in!!But that's just a side dish let me get back to the main course... Gideon.Gideon.Freaking Gideon!!This assassin/lover/protector/walking paradox/murderer/one-man-dispenser-of-justice is the driving force to this entire trilogy.To say that this man is battling demons is like saying The Clinton's hate the Obama's... no kidding!

Once this story got going it really didn't slow down and THAT is what I expect from Mr. Dickey.I also LOVED the relationship between Gideon and Hawks.That was a part of the story that I didn't expect but it was a very, very strong glue to this book.In this book Gideon is the hunter and the hunted, usually at the same time."Gideon" must be Latin for "nine lives" because this man gets out of more impossible situations than James-freaking-Bond.You really can't help but pull for Gideon even though his brutality is sometimes just downright...well... brutal.With violence emanating off him like cheap perfume it wouldn't be right if his friends and enemies were anything different.Once they start to hunt for each other the body count becomes high, the blood flows free, and the pain is given and taken like breaths.

The physical pain that Gideon goes through is only rivaled by the emotional and mental anguish he's feeling trying to protect what is "his".You read this series, this story in particular, and you wonder how one person can endure so much.So much pain.So much hunger.So much distrust.So much never having a home.So much destructive sexual freedom.So much what-ifs?So much... everything.Then you realize that Gideon is a murder-for-hire and maybe THAT is how he deals with it.But who knows?Maybe God?Maybe the devil, but even I think he's afraid to get on Gideon's bad side.

A really great finish to a really great series.I do think, however, that Eric is about .000008 seconds away from leaving the States and making his new home on the islands.The way he describes the islands is like describing an incredibly sexy and beautiful woman.If he does go I hope he's looking a chaperone... but I don't want Gideon as the pilot.:-)

Review of I See You (Paperback)

I SEE YOU is the third of Lisle's romantic suspense books.It returns to the setting of the first one, MIDNIGHT RAIN, and uses Brig as a main character rather than a secondary one.(On a side note, it's nice to hear even the tiny glimpses that are included about Alan and Phoebe, though for a moment I expected them to actually make an appearance.)

The mystery and suspense element of the book is very strong, and one of the things Lisle's readers can rely on.She gives enough hints that a very, VERY astute reader could, theoretically, figure out the plot twists before the main characters do.Most readers, however (including yours truly) will figure out only enough hints to point them in the wrong direction.Instead of being annoying, however, this only serves to increase the tension.

The romantic scenes in I SEE YOU are also well written.They flow realistically from the characters' personalities and situations rather than being there just to have sex scenes.In fact, all of the characters are fully developed, and their actions reflect their personalities in the non-romance scenes, also.

I SEE YOU is less gory than its predecessors.The paranormal element is present, though I won't give away any details about it.In all, this is a very good addition to a set of highly recommended books.

I have had this on my bookshelf for quite some time, and I should have read it earlier!

I have read many paranormal romances and I thoroughly enjoyed the wit of this character, Jessica Matthews.She is tough, hilarious, sexy, and has some delicious come-backs for anyone who annoys her.

Take the time to read this one... Michelle Bardsley will be one of your new best authors.
